It seems that you're in Germany. We have a dedicated site for Germany. During the past two decades, many books, governmental reports and regulations on safety measures against chemicals, fire, microbiological and radioactive hazards in laboratories have been published from various countries. These topics have also been briefly discussed in books on laboratory planning and management.

The application of various scientific instruments based on different ionizing and non-ionizing radiations have brought new safety problems to the laboratory workers of today, irrespective of their scientific disciplines, be they in medicine, natural or life sciences.

However, no comprehensive laboratory handbook dealing with all these hazards, some of which are recently introduced, has so far been available in a single volume. Therefore, it was thought worthwhile to publish this handbook on safety and health measures for laboratories, with contributions from several experts on these subjects. As this is a multi-author volume, some duplication in content among the chapters is unavoidable in order to maintain the context of a chapter as well as to make each chapter complete.

An attempt has also been made to maintain the central theme, which is how to work in a laboratory with maximum possible environmental safety.

Handbook of Laboratory Health and Safety Measures

Universities conduct research that requires the use of laboratories. These laboratories have many unique materials and concerns that require safe handling procedures, equipment, training, and other control measures. Special research safety equipment, including fumehoods, safety showers, eyewashes, and other controls must be maintained, and tested. Ohio University Safety Department audits laboratories, assists with waste disposal and other issues, and offers technical assistance as needed. Lab Safety.

The information in this manual applies to all laboratories that use, store or handle potentially hazardous materials and all personnel who work in these facilities. The Laboratory Safety Manual was last reviewed on May 3, Because each lab is different, and processes change routinely, each lab has the responsibility to maintain lab-specific safety information and documentation. Lab-specific information must be reviewed and approved by the Principal Investigator when new processes are added, existing processes change significantly, or at least annually. The following document, excerpted and edited from the UCLA Chemical Hygiene Plan, provides general chemical hazard information, as well as exposure control and safety information.

Depending on hazards present in each location, several EHS teams collaborate to provide safety services and ensure compliance in MSU laboratories and clinics. New researchers should contact EHS to schedule an orientation meeting to discuss laboratory hazards and any relevant EHS requirements, including training. Lab setup references are listed below.

Staff in UW laboratories using hazardous chemicals must have access to a copy of the manual and the supplemental laboratory specific information. Whether you choose paper or electronic, what is important is that all lab staff can access the complete CHP while working in the lab.
